Antonio Calderara
Abbiategrasso , Italy, 1903
After Calderara dropped out of engineering, he began studying light and color. He moved, together with his wife, to Vocciago where he was inspired by the misty light that hung over Lake Orta. In 1950 he started making geometric paintings, which were inspired by the works of Piet Mondrian and Josef Albers, among others. Towards the end of his life, Calderara focused primarily on the use of watercolour, which he believes perfectly captures the subtleties of transparency. He also transferred his panel paintings and watercolors to screen printing during this period.
A large part of his works are now stored in his home in Milan where you can admire more than 300 of his works.
